On
29 January 2009 Chief Justice Black issued a new Practice Note to govern the use of technology in
the Federal Court. This document entitled Practice Note No 17 The use of technology in the management of
discovery and the conduct of litigation replaces the former Practice
Note 17 issued in April 2000.
This
new Practice Note sets out a framework for the use of electronic
documents in proceedings before the Federal Court and has been designed
to increase efficiency and to facilitate a more effective exchange of
documents between parties. The framework outlined by the court will
change the way many businesses and law firms conduct their document
management and discovery processes with the requirement to consider
related technologies early in a proceeding.
Now is the time to jump on board because you need
to understand electronic discovery to enjoy the benefits and cost savings
to be gained.
This White Paper will
show you how to survive and thrive under the new Practice Note how to
avoid the traps and maximise efficiency.

LIO is pleased to introduce online data room
services nationally this month. We now carry out all of the tasks
associated with the preparation and presentation of documents and deal
information.
Our online
data rooms are powered by the Ansarada
VDR Platform and LIO is the only service bureau able to supply this
platform to the legal market. Our experienced project managers work
closely with our clients to scope, plan and implement their online
workspace to their exact specifications.
The Ansarada platform enables the client to:
Efficiently manage and track the flow of sensitive
information
Establish a virtual data room in as little as 30
minutes
Accelerate the transaction and cut deal time
Control your data online anytime, anywhere
Minimise information leaks
Boost security with dynamic controls over user access
and authorisation
Meet disclosure obligations with ease
Reduce due diligence project costs
Manage Q&A (RFI) effectively and securely
Track client activity through granular, highly
detailed audit trails
At the outset of any project, an LIO project manager
will meet with the client for an initial scoping of the matter. Next, a
project time line is drafted, capturing each of the tasks associated with
the implementation of the data room as well as key milestones. A cost
estimate is also supplied, taking into account the requirements of the
matter namely volume of data, project duration and number of potential
users.
Upon completion of a specific project, or at any point,
LIO is able to produce an electronic archive of an online data room. The
archive allows clients to maintain an organised electronic copy of
documents for compliance and storage purposes, while providing protection
in the event of litigation, audit or other unforeseen circumstances.
